Eggs
- Eggs come in different sizes. Some are tiny, and some are large.
- They have different shapes too. Some are more round, and some are more oval.
- Some eggs have spotted patterns and some do not.
- Most of the chicken eggs we eat are unfertilized.
- Typical chicken eggs are white, brown, or shades of blue and green.
Parts of an egg
An egg has a thin hard shell that protects the embryo. Inside the shell is the yolk (yellow), which is surrounded by the albumen (white). The embryo is a tiny white dot on the egg yolk that will later become a chick. The egg yolk provides food while the egg white provides water and extra cushioning for the embryo.
